A Tiles dashboard layout was automatically created for your new data bucket, but chances are you will want to customize your dashboard to your liking. A dashboard editor is built right into the Tiles web application. Let's customize because it is super easy.
Edit Your Layout (Resize and Move)
Click the "Edit Tiles" button in the top left corner to put your dashboard into edit mode. Each individual tile can be dragged to a new position by simply clicking+dragging the tile and resized by clicking+dragging on the circles on the border of the tile.
For example, your dashboard can be quickly modified to have a large map tile, a small message tile, and a medium size line graph tile as shown above. You can learn more about resizing and moving tiles here.
Add Tiles
You can add as many tiles to your dashboard as you want, including multiple, different views of the same data stream. Click the "+Add Tiles" link at the top to add a new tile. Set the tile title in the Title field, the type of tile in the Tile Type field, and the data source in the Signal Key field. For example, choose the myNumber data stream as the Signal Key and select Gauge Chart from the Tile Type list.
A new gauge graph tile will be added to your dashboard. Resize and move the tile to the desired location. You can learn more about adding tiles here.
Data Transformations (Real-Time Expressions)
Next, let's add a tile that includes a mathematical transformation of the incoming data (i.e. a real-time expression). Add a tile and input the following into the Signal Keys field:
=[myNumber]*2
This expression will multiply the value of myNumber by two. Select the Tile Type to be Line Graph and select the color of the line graph to be drawn. Close out the dialog box, resize and move the tile to the desired location.
Not only are all historical values of myNumber transformed by the expression in this new tile, as new data is streamed in the transformation will update in real-time. Real-time expressions give you a powerful tool for doing some really useful data transformations including unit conversions, filtering, mapping data values to emojis, and so much more. Read more about real-time expressions here.
Switch Between Dark and Light Themes
You can change the dashboard theme from dark to light by clicking the "settings" link underneath the bucket name on the bucket shelf and checking the "Light Theme" checkbox under the "Data" tab.
Add Background Image
You can add an image to your Tiles dashboard background by selecting Edit Tiles and clicking on Change Background from the top menu. This will pull up the Background Settings menu. You can search for a photo from the millions of high-resolution photos available from Unsplash by typing in a keyword in the search bar (e.g. "sky", "texture", "nashville"). Select the photo by clicking on the preview to apply it to your background. Click the Done button at the bottom to exit the Background Settings menu. You can learn more about background images and advanced features such as how to upload your own custom image here.
Dashboard Templates
You can quickly up-level your dashboard design using one of the dozens of dashboard designs in our template gallery (here). You easily can import a dashboard design template into your data dashboard by following the instructions here.
Build a Mobile Dashboard
Want to take your data dashboard with you wherever you go? You can have both a desktop optimized dashboard view as well as a separate, mobile optimized view of you data by following the steps here.
Waves
The Waves app gives you another way to visualize and explore your data, especially useful for analyzing historical data. Waves is an interactive, multi-row waveform viewer. Click on the Waves icon at the top toolbar to switch views. Like Tiles, Waves will update in real-time as new data is streamed into your data bucket. You can learn more about waves here.
